“The Italian presidency of the G20 took place at the most important time for health: the pandemic has crippled global health and economic growth, exacerbating inequalities and putting unprecedented pressure on health systems. The G20 conclusions were clear: health systems must be strengthened, the capacity of warning and surveillance systems must be increased, vaccines must be rapidly produced and distributed, and social conditions must be improved to address inequalities. Crucial is the contribution of science and innovation to achieve these goals.”
