Italy within the EU is supported by a regulatory framework that aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the internal market, taking as a base a high level of protection of health for patients and users. There are over 1,5 million types of medical devices and IVDs. Examples of medical devices innovation opening new frontiers in healthcare are surgery robotics, 3D imaging devices, regenerative sticking plasters, nano pacemakers, medical devices wearable, software apps, AI, and implantable devices 3D printed. In addition, IVDs are used to perform thousands of tests on biological samples, including Covid-19 testing or predictive medicine by gene testing. Medical devices are essential to enable future medicine, and IVD’s are crucial to more than 80% of any clinical decisions.
